DECKTECT PU BASE COAT "Flexible Base Coating"
Decktect PU Base Coat provides a hard wearing, low maintenance, flexible surface membrane, which is chemically resistant and impervious. The Decktect PU Base Coat is used as part of the Decktect External Car Park System.
Decktect PU Base Coat is a two-pack high build flexible polyurethane membrane formulated to provide excellent crack-bridging properties with over 500% elongation whilst being totally impervious.
For the installation of the complete Decktect System this Datasheet should be read in conjunction with the Decktect Aggregate Holding Coat and Decktect Top Coat Datasheets.
Decktect PU Base Coat is resistant to a wide range of chemicals. Specific data is available on request.
Decktect PU Base Coat is available in Light Grey, Dark Grey, mid Green, Artic Blue and Red.
Decktect PU Base Coat should not be applied at temperatures below 5degrees Celsius and above 30degrees Celsius.
SURFACE PREPARATION - CONCRETE
It is essential that the substrate surfaces are correctly prepared prior to application. New concrete or cementitious substrates should have been placed for at least 28 days, unless specially water reduced and give a protimeter reading of less than 75% RH before applying Decktect PU Base Coat. Should the reading be above 75% RH please refer to the Technical Services Department for further information. All substrates should be sound and free from contamination with oil, grease and other matter. Any oil or grease contamination must be removed completely by grinding, scabbling or shotblasting the contaminated areas to provide a clean substrate. It may be possible to prepare lightly contaminated areas by treatment with an industrial degreaser. Laitance should be removed by vacuum blasting, grinding or light scabbling. Old concrete floors should be prepared by one of the mechanical methods mentioned above. Ensure that all concrete substrates are free from rising damp.
SURFACE PREPARATION - STEEL
When applying to steelwork the surface should be cleaned to a bright metal finish by either grinding or shotblasting to S.A. 2.5. A two pack epoxy zinc primer should then be used prior to the application of Decktect PU Base Coat.
Prepared concrete substrates to be topped with Decktect PU Base Coat should be primed with two coats of primer. Mix the primer in the proportions as supplied by adding the entire contents of the hardener container to the base container. Once mixed, the primer should be applied immediately as a thin continuous film using stiff brushes or rollers and left to cure. Over application and puddles should be avoided. The second coat of Primer should be applied at right angles to the first. Aggregate should be broadcast over the surface immediately to provide a key and left to cure and become tack free prior to the application of Decktect. If the substrate is giving a reading of 75% RH or above the primer should be Conren’s WD Aquatect water vapour suppressant primer.
MIXING AND APPLICATION
Decktect PU Base Coat is a two pack pre-weighed system ready for on site use. Mechanical mixing is essential and a drill and paddle type mixer is recommended. Add the entire contents of the hardener container to the base container and mix for 3-4 minutes using a slow speed drill fitted with a suitable mixing paddle until the mixture is homogeneous. The Decktect PU Base Coat should then be poured onto the primed substrate and spread to the required thickness using a serrated steel trowel. It is essential to spread the material in a uniform, even application without over-working. The Decktect PU Base Coat may be rolled with a spiked nylon roller after application to aid the release of any entrapped air and to assist in leveling any slight trowel marks. The Decktect PU Base Coat should be left for a maximum of 24 hours before application of Decktect Aggregate Holding Coat
COVERAGE AND PACK SIZES
Decktect PU Base Coat is a non-flammable product. Decktect PU Base Coat base/hardener should not be allowed to come into contact with skin and eyes or be swallowed. Decktect PU Base Coat contains Isocyanates. Avoid prolonged inhalation of vapours. Gloves, goggles and barrier creams should therefore be used. Ensure adequate ventilation if working in enclosed areas, a suitable disposal mask should be used. Skin contamination with any of the products should be removed immediately with soap and water. In the event that mixed resin comes into contact with the skin, it must be removed before it hardens with a good quality resin removing cream, followed by washing with soap and water. If accidental eye contamination occurs irrigate with copious quantities of clean water and seek medical advice. If ingestion of any of the materials takes place, seek medical attention immediately. Do not educe vomiting.
All tools and equipment should be cleaned with Conren Solvent cleaner immediately after use. Spillage should be absorbed with sand or sawdust and disposed of in accordance with statutory regulations
Decktect PU Base Coat has a shelf life of 12 months if stored in original containers between 10 degrees Celsius and 25degrees Celsius.
